Microlab
Policies |
1. Use of
Microlab computers is limited to 2 hours. Patrons working for more than
2 hours will be asked to give up their machine if someone else is waiting
to use one. Priority is given as follows:
1. Persons
using Microsoft office programs
2. Persons using other programs on the microlab computers such as map
or statistical software
or programs that are not found on Microlab Lite computers.
3. Persons using the WinSpirs, HomerWeb, the Internet, or other databases
for academic research
4. Persons using the UConn mainframe or e-mail
2. Reservation Policy:
·
Reservations are available on machines with special capabilities such
as zip drives or project workstations.
· Reservations are limited to 2 hours.
· Only one reservation per day.
· Reservations can be made up to two days in advance.
· There is a 10-minute grace period for reservations.
3. Any computer left unattended for more than 15 minutes will be considered
available for other patrons. 4. All
software provided by the Library Microlabs is copyrighted. Copying any
Library Microlab software, other than freeware or shareware, is prohibited.
Patrons are responsible for registering their copies of shareware. 5. Attempts
to change computer settings, download/install programs onto computers,
or make any other changes are prohibited. 6. The
Library Microlabs are intended to be used for academic and educational
purposes only. Use of any of the Library Microlabs for moneymaking projects
such as All Advantage is prohibited. (Follows State & UConn policy.)
7. Manuals
can be checked out at the Computer and Copy Services Desk with a photo
ID. 8. Microlab
Techs are available for advanced troubleshooting on University workstations
only. They can assist patrons with program problems, but are not instructors.
Program instruction is available through UCC only.
9. Drinks
are allowed if you use the Library approved Mug. You are also allowed
to bring in a water bottle with a screw-top cap. Food and tobacco products
are not allowed in any of the Library Microlabs.
10. The Library
Microlab is not responsible for personal items left unattended. Lost computer
disks and all other items are turned into Exit Control. Please do not
leave library books in the computer carrels. 11. In
case of a fire alarm or dangerous weather conditions, you must evacuate
the building. The Library Microlabs are not responsible for personal
items left in the building during a any evacuation.
12. Disruptive
behavior and excessive noise, including excessive cell phone use, is prohibited.
Those who continue disruptive behavior will be asked to leave. 13. Please
bring diskettes with you. Personal files and software left on hard drives
will be removed. High density and zip disks are available for sale at
the Computer and Copy Services Desk.
14. Please
regularly perform virus checks on your software. We are not responsible
for corrupted disks or data and cannot guarantee full recovery of personal
files. If you need help with performing a virus check, ask for help at
the CCS Desk. 15. Multiple
copies from the laser printers are not allowed. Please use a copy machine
to make multiple copies.
