Library Services for Persons with Disabilities

It is the mission of the University of Connecticut Libraries to provide every library patron access to all library facilities and collections to the best of our abilities.

This page contains information on library services for persons with disabilities at the Homer Babbidge Library of the University of Connecticut at Storrs. For other UConn locations, please consult the appropriate Regional Campus Library or site.

  • Services

  • The Library provides assistance to persons with permanent or temporary disabilities on an individual basis.
    Services include but are not limited to:
    Retrieval of library materials held at the Babbidge, Music, or Pharmacy Libraries on the Storrs Campus.

    Assistance with bibliographic sources.

    Orientation to the Babbidge Library building.

    Assistance with research projects.

    Access to materials in alternative formats.

  • Policies
  • Students may no longer take exams in the Homer Babbidge Library. The Center for Students with Disabilities offers space for students to take their exams. Please contact the CSD Office, 486-2020.

  • The Homer Babbidge Library has the following equipment available:
  • Accessible workstations for the Library's electronic services
  • Low vision readers
  • Kaman Assistive Technology workstation offers:
    • Internet access
    • MS Office
    • JAWS
    • TextHelp
    • Kurzweil 3000 with scanner
    • Dragon Naturally Speaking
    • Zip Drive 250MB

  • Physical Access

  • All three public entrances to the Library are equipped with automatic doors:

    • The north entrance, is at street level with elevators to the Plaza
    • The south entrance, opposite the Dodd Research Center, is reached via a ramp
    • The west entrance, across from the new School of Business Building, is at ground level.

    Parking for those with a state Handicapped Parking Permit is available in the Dodd Research Center's parking lot on the south side of the Library.

  • Retrieval of Books and Journals held at the Babbidge, Music, or Pharmacy Libraries on the Storrs Campus


  • Requests for retrieval of library materials held at the Babbidge, Music, or Pharmacy Libraries on the Storrs campus are made through the Document Delivery/Interlibrary Loan by University of Connecticut students, faculty and staff.
